Boise Mayor David Bieter ’78 will be the guest of honor at the annual Loaves and Fishes dinner on Saturday February 4th.

The Loaves and Fishes dinner is a fundraising event for Catholic Charities of Idaho. Established in 2006 the first Loaves and Fishes event featured the candidates for Idaho Governor and Lieutenant Governor. For the first time in state history the four candidates for the two major parties are Roman Catholic . Recognizing this anomaly, Andy Brunelle ’78 dreamed up the idea of a fundraising dinner similar to the Al Smith Memorial Dinner. The Al Smith dinner is held annually in New York City raising funds for health care services of the Archdiocese. Thus, Catholic Charities of Idaho was a logical beneficiary of an Idaho version of an event that promotes humor and good will among those in public life. Brunelle got together with his broth John Brunelle ’79, Marc Johnson (former board member of the Bishop Kelly Foundation) and Rev. Thomas Faucher to draw up plans for the first event.

In recent years the Loaves and Fishes Dinner has honored public officials such as Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson and Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter (STA ’62). Now in 2012 Boise Mayor gets his turn.

Julie Vielle-Marie Thompson Hillner September 26, 1965 ~ October 14, 2011

Julie Vielle-Marie Thompson Hillner of Boise, age 46, loving wife, mother, daughter and sister passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, October 14, 2011.

Julie was born in Boise, Idaho on September 26, 1965 at St. Alphonsus Hospital to Gayla Boyce and Robert J. Thompson. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Kelly High School in 1984.

After graduation from high school, Julie proudly served four years in the United States Navy, following in the footsteps of her grandfather, William Thompson. While stationed in San Diego, Julie met her best friend and love of her life, Tim Hillner. Julie and Tim were married in Boise on October 28, 1989 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She went on to earn a degree in elementary education from Boise State University, following her life long dream of becoming a teacher. Upon graduation from Boise State, Julie began her distinguished career in education at St. Mark’s Catholic School. Most recently she was a kindergarten teacher at Amity Elementary in the Boise School District.

Julie loved her students and colleagues dearly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and students of Amity Elementary School for all of the support and friendship you have shown her over the years. Julie’s greatest happiness came from being a parent to her two children, Molly and Kody. She was their greatest fan and supported them through every triumph and challenge. Julie could always be found watching Molly cheer or Kody play football, camera in hand, and that infectious smile on her face.

Julie is survived by her husband, Tim Hillner; daughter, Molly Hillner; son, Kody Hillner; parents, Gayla Boyce (Shirl) and Robert J. Thompson (Colleen); siblings, Deborah Florence, Andria Jenne’ (Shane), Robert W. Thompson (Kate), Michelle Sobonya (Jim), Lori Garcia (Corey); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A public viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19th at Summers Funeral Home, 1205 W. Bannock, Boise. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 20th at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 811 S. Latah, Boise. Burial will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Summers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Julie Thompson Hillner Family Fund at any Idaho Independent Bank location.

Former Bishop Kelly coach Charles “Chuck” Forrestal will be honored on Friday evening, October 14th, with a special celebration at the school. Pregame, Halftime, and postgame activities are being planned to honor Forrestal, who was the head football coach at BK for six seasons, 1964 through 1969.

Forrestal was the first head coach at Bishop Kelly and is often referred to as the “Godfather of BK football.” His Rockne-like approach to game strategy and player motivation are legendary among former players, and his on-field results established a tradition of winning that echoes to this day.

If you know a person who played for Coach Forrestal at BK or served as member of the coaching or support staff during the Forrestal Era, please contact event coordinator Barry “Spud” Zamzow at barryzamzow@bc.com.

Here’s the plan of events:

“CHUCK KNIGHT”

-14 October 2011

-6:00pm: Reception in the “Carley Center”(new BK gym out back) with Coach Forrestal and all players, coaches and managers from the teams of Fall of 1964 through the Fall of 1969 (6 total teams).

-6:45pm: Walk over to Nick Ysursa Field

-7:00: BK Knights take on Columbia

-Just before half time–all former players for Chuck Forrestal head down on the track to the center of the field for a brief introduction of Coach Forrestal and the players, with a brief “Bio” on Coach Forrestal and his first 6 teams and players/records. “The Voice of the Knights”–Dave Skinner will do the introductions from the press box.
