In Memory of Mike Fortin ’78 1960 – 2010

Mike Fortin at the Class of 1978 30-year reunion

Mike Fortin passed away on December 26, 2010 in Boise.  An obituary was published in the local newspaper on January 27, 2011 and we reprint it here.

Mike Fortin, 50, passed away with his family by his side December 26, 2010, at a local hospital, from a brave 2nd battle with cancer.

He was born May 7, 1960 to parents, Galen Lee and Kathleen Andes Fortin, in Pocatello, ID. At 4 yrs. old he and his family moved to Boise, ID where he grew up. He attended local schools and graduated from Bishop Kelly in 1978.

In 1983 he had his first child, a daughter, with 2 sons to follow in 1984 and 1988. Mike worked for Micron. He enjoyed his job and was very proud to have worked there for 26 yrs. He was well respected by all that knew him.

In 1995 Mike had his first battle with cancer. Like everything in life he took this head on and never stopped, never complained, and was always very positive at all times during this and won. This head on attitude was how he lived his life and the same attitude that he carried into this second battle.

Mike had a good heart, always trying to do what he thought was best, always willing to try and help out the people in his life in any way that he could. He never asked for help, but would help you if you asked. In his off time from work Mike loved to snow ski, play golf and go camping with his family. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, a passion he shared with his sons. He also just loved to be at home with his family spending time and sharing stories or just watching a movie. He enjoyed being with friends and having a good laugh.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen Andes Fortin; and his grandparents, Joseph and Eileen Andes and Everett and Rose Fortin. Mike is survived by his wife, Carmen; his daughter, Courtney (Patrick) Packer; his sons, Cory Fortin and Cody Fortin; his sister, Gaileen (Dave and 3 kids) Hill; his father, Galen Lee Fortin; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. An open house service and reception will be held Sunday, January 30, 2011 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Cloverdale Funeral Home Reception Center. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Mike’s name to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, www.lymphoma.org.
